Scroogent Grocery ("Scroogent," "we," "us") helps you find and clip grocery coupons, compare prices, and check your savings at checkout. This page explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and who it's shared with.

Account information

The free trial includes three Auto Clip runs per installation. Manual clipping and store-card display remain available afterward without a Scroogent account. Paid features, including unlimited Auto Clip, Insights and checkout scanning, require an account. Signing in is handled by Firebase Authentication (a Google service), using whichever method you choose: email and password, Google, Apple, or phone number. Firebase handles ordinary sign-in. If you change your email address through Scroogent, our server temporarily receives your current Scroogent password and forwards it to Firebase to verify the change; we do not store that password.

Our server stores your account identifier, email address when available, subscription status and purchase-sharing preference. The three-run trial counter is kept on your device, not tracked as a server-side trial start date. Optional offer sharing and issue reports, and nutrition reference caches, store the additional information described below. We do not store account or retailer passwords.

Retailer logins and sync

Retailer usernames and passwords you choose to save are stored only on your device (in your device's secure credential storage), so the app can fill them into that retailer's own sign-in page. They are never sent to our servers.

To show your coupons, offers, and store connections, the app loads each retailer's own website inside the app (using your device's normal web browser engine) and reads the coupons and offers your account already has access to. This uses the retailer's own login session on your device — the same as if you visited their site in a browser. Your use of a retailer's site is also subject to that retailer's own privacy policy.

Purchase history and price sharing

Your full purchase history is stored on your device. When you use nutrition Insights, a purchased item’s barcode or name is sent through Scroogent’s server to Open Food Facts, a public product database, to find nutrition facts. These lookups do not send full receipts, prices, purchase dates or retailer credentials. Queries and nutrition facts are cached on our server; these lookups are separate from the purchase-sharing preference. Full purchase-history sharing is not currently enabled in the app.

AI-assisted product comparison

When you use Compare, product names, brands, package sizes, barcodes, prices, sale terms and related coupon descriptions are sent through Scroogent's server to OpenAI to organize comparable products and interpret offer wording. While we evaluate a second model, the product names, brands, sizes and your search text are also sent to Cloudflare Workers AI, which runs Cloudflare's Clef model on the same request. Retailer credentials, account identifiers, store addresses and purchase history are excluded from both requests. Your Scroogent sign-in authenticates the request to our server and enforces Paid access and usage limits. AI suggestions cannot replace retailer prices or establish coupon eligibility; calculations use validated source quantities and offer terms. Clipping runs through your retailer connection on your device.

Validated interpretations are cached for up to six hours and usage counters for up to a day. We do not save the submitted product payload in a dedicated server database, except that during that evaluation we keep, for up to 30 days, the search text, the number of products, and the names of products the two models judged differently, without any account identifier. OpenAI receives the product and offer text for processing; API storage is disabled in the request. This is separate from purchase-history sharing.

Your shopping list is stored on Scroogent’s server under your account so it stays the same on all your devices: the items you add, quantities, notes, whether you checked them off, and for items you chose in Compare, the product, store name, price and product link at the time you chose it. It is also kept on your device so it works offline. Deleting an item removes it from the list; a record that it was deleted is kept for up to 60 days so another device can’t restore it. Deleting your account deletes your list. Your list is not shared with retailers or used for advertising.

Shared offers and issue reports

When you choose to share an offer, Scroogent stores its retailer, title, description, image link, offer identifier, savings, available price and expiration information to create a public link. Anyone with that link can view it for up to 30 days. We store a hash of the source IP address to limit abuse. A shared offer does not include your retailer login or purchase history.

If you submit an issue report, we store your message, any contact details you provide, and app diagnostics such as platform, build and adapter versions. A valid signed-in report can also be associated with your account identifier. Please do not include passwords or private retailer captures in a report.

Crash and error reports

The iPhone and Android apps use Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to report crashes and errors so we can fix them. When the app crashes, or one of its screens hits an error, it sends a report containing technical details only: what went wrong and where in the app's code, the app's build, your device model and operating system version, and a random identifier for the installation. Reports never include your retailer logins, purchase history, coupons, checkout photos or the contents of the screen. Google keeps these reports for 90 days. The Scroogent website doesn't send crash reports.

Checkout photos

If you use the checkout-scan feature, the photo you take is currently processed for text entirely on your device (using your phone's built-in on-device text recognition), and nothing is uploaded or sent to us. If on-device recognition isn't accurate enough for a future version of the app, we may process checkout photos using a cloud-based text recognition service instead; if that changes, we'll update this section and the date at the top of this page before it takes effect.

What we don't do

Data retention and deletion

You can remove a saved retailer login at any time from the Stores screen, which deletes it from your device immediately. You can delete your account at any time from the Account screen in the app (Account, then Delete account). That removes your sign-in from Firebase Authentication and deletes your account and subscription records, data-sharing preference, and reports or history-discovery records associated with your account identifier. Anonymous reports, public offer links and shared nutrition reference caches are not tied to your account for deletion. Public offer links become unavailable after their expiration. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play — cancel it in your store account. If you can't use the app, contact us at the email below and we'll delete it for you.

Children

Scroogent Grocery is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
